The Cateye BMG 500 is for your handlebars Lynda, the Cateye BMG 300 has a fatter insert and is meant for drop handlebars which are larger.
I've fitted both of these mirrors to standard handlebars. For the one with the fatter insert, you only have to pare a bit off the cone with a Stanley knife to make it a smaller diameter and then it'll fit.

I just got one of these for my new bike and I'm very impressed. It's very convex so that it has a huge angle of view, and so it has no blind spots and gives the whole field of view wherever you put it, so no need to keep adjusting it and trying to keep it in position. The insert is a bit small, so I cut a small piece of plastic pipe, which I split and removed a bit from the circumferance until it fitted nicely in the handlebars and then the mirror fitted into it. No vibration, but the cars do look a bit further away than normal because of the wide angle. I like this mirror the most - more than the Cateye ones, which were my previous favourites.

I did exactly the same d8veh, one of my bikes has the 500G, the other the 300G pared down, though the latter was very touch and go since it had a thicker tube wall competition handlebar.
