Throttle versus turbo button?

Hi All,

I'm in the process of sorting this PowaCycle Windsor for the Mrs and, not really knowing how an eBike works in the real world was wondering about the role of the throttle?

I guess my question is, on something as 'low power' (I'm led to believe) as the Windsor, do you generally use the throttle as such, or are you (typically) on full power all the time when using the throttle on top of the pedelelec function?

If yes, then would there be anything detrimental in having a simple button that gave you full power that could be used when pulling away from traffic lights or roundabouts etc?

I know the concept isn't completely crazy as that's all we had on the Sinclair C5s and I can't remember it being an issue ... but that was a different type of motor (bushed)?

All the best and sorry for all the silly questions. ;-)

I find the progresive power of a throttle usefull it controlls the amount of power you want in any situation, for example downhiil you may want no power at all,on the flat you may need assistance into a headwind turn a corner and you may need just a little help, on a slight incline maybe only a little power then full throttle as the incline gets steeper,an on off switch is full power or nothing at all, full contol throttles are available pretty cheap on ebay.

I agree with fishingpaul. 80% of the time all you need is an on/off button but for the remaining 20% the extra control is very useful, like tackling the tight corners that you find regularly on wheelchair ramps for instance.

Thanks nottyR6 and fishingpaul,

OK, I'll leave the throttle on there then. ;-)

I was asking because I was thinking if I could get rid of it I might have more room for a rapid-fire type shifter (easier for the Mrs and more what she's used to) assuming we can get one to work with a 6 speed block (and I'm not sure we can can we)? What about a 6 speed thumbshifter?

Shimano TX50 Thumb Shifter Plus

What about trigger throttles, do they exis and would they work with the bike / a thumbshifter?

Another part of this question is that the std PowaCycle bars seem pretty wide. Well certainly in comparison with most of our std MTB's and folders as it is a real struggle to get through our fairly wide front door? Now I think I might be able to nip a bit off each end and still have enough straight bar for the existing controls but do we all stick with the factory setup? ie, Is it optimum for the type of cycle?

I guess what I'm trying to do here is set it up once then just use it, rather than playing with it piecemeal.

Cheers and thanks again,
