Just completing a project on an old e-bike conversion that has a throttle only.

The bike now has a front 350W BPM2, KU123 30amp controller, high-discharge battery & 810 LCD display.

I want to ideally get rid of the throttle and convert it to pedelec only.

Is it easy ?

Should be easy peasy to fit a generic sensor with a magnet disc to your crank and wire it to a /the spare connector fromyour controller, male white or black connector should be wired red/black/green - 5v/gnd/signal. The same colours as the throttle but that one should be a female connector.

I'm not so sure its as easy as you make it out Nealth! Unless of of course you got a complete conversion kit.And where can you get these? On my bike its mounted on the back wheel with what looks like magnets epoxy glued in a housing with a sensor attached!

Rubbish most Chinese bikes are modular so easy peasy.
BMSB, GBK, Panda just to start with you can get a pedelec sensor and disc with 5/8/10/12 magnets that will fit on any crank some may need a liitle mod to fit, cost is about $7 +p7p or about £10 over here all you need to do is make sure it is wired correctly. All kits are modular so replacing individual components is very simple, the component you are talking about sounds like it is a speed sensor.

I hear you.I'm still not convinced though that this is an easy mod.For starters you need special tools to mount the sensor bracket - no? ..How many out there have bottom bracket tools?
Anyway re : the component I was on about on my my bike,it deffo is a pedelec sensor. ...Bike has no speedo!

The only tools you need is a 'crank puller' and a 'bottom bracket removal tool'..... the bb removal tool will vary depending on what bb you have.
Both of these tools are widely available and cheap on Ebay.

Just to note..... to have enough room to fit my magnet disc on the chain ring side, i had to remove the granny ring, which is the smallest chain ring on a triple.
Or you can just mount it on the other side.

Being in the back wheel sometimes means it's also the speed sensor, signalling the assist speed cutoff, so serving two purposes.

If you are into tinkering then most tools are available and too remove cranks a simple 8mm allen or crank puller are needed which can be got for a few quid. Bottom bracket tools aren't always needed and you can improvise in removing them, other wise again they aren't expensive to get. If you are only after a one off mod or removal the your LBS will do the job for a fee sometimes in the end it may be just as cheap to buy the tool needed.
This is a simple mod/upgrade not a 5 minute job but an hour or so should see it done depending on any modifying that's needs doing.

Just noticed you wont need any of that gear if you buy one of the Panda Bikes PAS sensors - whilst probably not as robust as some of the other sensors you dont need to remove crank arm etc

I like the fact they reckon removing the crank is 'the most complex part of an eBike conversion'
WTF ?
Something as simple as removing a crank should not ever be called complex.

removing the crank is 'the most complex part of an eBike conversion' - For a hub kit, fitting the pedelec sensor can be difficult if you have a hollowtech BB and triple chainring.

Removing a crank is a piece of pi$$..... but then again, i'm from a generation of kids that had to work on our own bikes.

Removing the crank arm is easy if you have a shiny new bike and the correct tools.

If the bugger is stuck on then you also need a blow torch, a drift, a large mallet and a private place that you can fill with expletives.

Having just spent some quality time this afternoon with a crowbar and a very large hammer removing a crankset for which there is no known tool available I beg to disagree sir! :p

I finally swapped out my crappy Decathlon crankset with plastic coated cranks for the Shimano Acera from my other recovered bike. I am now a very fast happy bunny pedelecer - 48 tooth big crank instead of 42, now we are talking! I have the feeling that my range has just gone up very considerably :D

I took one off last week that required four F's, a couple of C's and slack handful of MF's.
