With Australian sunshine such things can be done, and they have a 3000 km solar car race there.

Bikes and trikes have done it previously, but it's best with a trike or a bike and trailer, the latter to carry the panel area needed. The Australian photo below shows the sort of thing I mean:

And it stops bald guys like me from getting sunstroke. BionX what an unfortunate choice...

Torqueedo sell solar panels for their electric outboards which can enable the Travel 503 model to run at about 2 knots all day without using very much battery. 2 knots just happens to be a pretty good trolling speed :D

PS yesterday's catch - a 33 cm sargo about 700g

They still make higher powered machines that haven't changed much from their earlier bikes I first came across in 2008.
This addition to their range looks great and could possibly offer competition to the high end Bosch bikes.

Yes, solar panels integrate nicely on a recumbent. I think the guy in the thread has a normal bike. Not such an easy task.

I'd love to ride a recumbent here in UK, but with all the trucks and road ragers, wouldn't expect a long life cycle.

Sorry, that was a poor attempt at a joke :)
