Hahaa ! V.good.
But consider : who is the fool, the person who built the gym in town
or the person trying to get there ?

I was recently identified as a potential candidate for a (new) heart-drug trial, would have involved visits to BRI, middle of Bristol, no parking, impossible to get there without stress,
I dont need stress ! ,,,,

Maybe these stationary cycles could be converted into battery chargers for ones e-bikes, then would have a usefulness beyond basic exercise.

Sadly to many in our daft society, gym membership has social status and is desirable, cycling is looked down on as almost anti-social and often the pursuit of the eccentric.

So true. I think the government could do more to change that perception and promote cycling as the best way to keep fit and help the social challenges we face.

In my town as I mentioned earlier in the year, we just had a big alternative transport grant from DfT (£1.6 million), of which some has been allocated to supporting and promoting cycling in the town.. however I haven't seen it materialise into anything substantial or practical to get more people on bicycles. Leaflets through doors, and a few more cycle markings on pavements and roads. Much of the money has gone into public transport, more buses and subsidising certain routes to supermarkets etc.
