Thorn rohloff

Hello

I intend to fit a front wheel motor to my Thorn Raven Tour, as I live in Cornwall [hilly] and getting older. It has a Rohloff rear hub and eccentric bottom bracket, any advise please on the best value conversion.

It would probably be better to get a different bike. If your forks are steel, you'll probably be OK with a Woosh Big Bear Kit or a Panda Bikes Xiongda kit. The Xiongda would probably be the best.Make sure you use at leat one torque arm like the ones Cyclezee sell, not the Torque lock ones that Panda sell.

Thanks for the advice, but I love my bike. She who must be obeyed has said I can only have 1 bike as space is limited. The Thorn is 10 years old and done 5000 miles so will not be worth a lot, also to get a bike of the same quality as the Thorn will be to expensive.

Agreed with d8veh the TORQLock would not be appropriate for a Xiongda kit, they are design for maximum 250W 20Nm kits and require you to have M5 eyelets.

However we do sell a range of affordable non-locking torque arms as well which would be suitable. We have both universal torque arms (that use a hose clamp) as well as eyelet style arms (that screw into your M5 eyelts). Both styles also come in multi angle versions that give you more freedom for fitting.

I'd agree with d8veh that the Xiongda kit would be ideal for you if you're primary concern is the hill climbing. Mid-drive crank kits are also good for getting up hills, but perhaps not such a good option if you have an "eccentric" bottom bracket?
