Yep, they want large profit margins which they'd only get if they bought in serious bulk, which they won't do unless there's massive demand, and there won't be, because there's only so much most punters will pay for a ebike battery. I'd need to buy 70 18950 Molicells from Frogstar to exceed my current 19.2Ah capacity. But it'd be one hell of a battery.

You are looking at the wrong Foggy portal, for spends greater then £75 use the wholesale site where cells are cheaper. How else do you think I can build a battery using HG2 oe P42A for sub £100.

Those P28A's one should be able to get for about £280 delivered.

P28A is a nice cell and a 25a rating not to be sniffed at.
Other cells one could consider are;
Sinowatt 30SP 15a rated , Sam 30Q gives 12% more run time though is some what dearer.

For those on a tight budget then there are three cells that are under £2 a pop.
Sinowatt 25SP 20A nearly as good as SAM 25R8.
BAK CNP 20A nearly as good as the Sam 25R5.
EVE25SP 20A not as good as the above pair but a good budget cell.
Most o fthe China cells tend to sag little initially from full charge though this is short lived and the graph lines fall in place better through discharge curve along sid ethe more illustrious competitors.
Do your home work before buying to compare stats and curves etc.
Not forgetting when comparing China cells they are some 25 - 40% cheaper in cost then well known branded cells.

Thanks for all that information, I've squirreled it away.

Clearly, the safest course of action is to cut my teeth honing my as yet non-existent welding skills by advertising custom battery pack building on Facebook, thereby risking other people's houses like all those other dudes, until houses stop burning down, then make that awesome battery for myself.

I might make a small battery at some point. I'm quite amazed at two new battery builders who fairly recently have posted about attempting massive battery pack projects as their first. I'd start small, because lithium-ion batteries aren't forgiving of mistakes.
