Theft deterrent?

Would it be reasonable to take more assertive action to prevent the theft of bicycles?
A normal weak and wimpy motion alarm could be fastened to the handlebars, to remind any owner with poor short term memory that the alarm is active.
Unauthorised movement of the bike over a timed period could start one of two existing mechanisms that could perhaps be installed in the seat tube.

1)
A smoke generator of the type used in radio controlled models where the EC Approved coloured dye is staining but not permanent.
2)
A liquid disrupter (a one shot water gun) again using an EC Approved dye but perhaps using a CO2 bulb as the propellant.
Some types of saddle might benefit from Mae West's coffee recipe.

no chance we could rig up an electric fence style jolt every couple of seconds if the alarm is not turned off.:D

Thank you Stephen, I did enjoy that photo, could you find a suitable one on that recipe?

3)
A radio controlled servo could slowly rotate the barrel of a brake cable adjuster to apply full braking power.

Consider being soaked with dyed water, trailing a streamer of coloured smoke, brakes being applied and a sounder as loud as permitted.

Radio is not required, a small 8 pin microcontroller can accept input from sensors and output RC type pulses to control all devices mentioned.
Should anyone be interested in perusing ideas of this type I could try to assist with the microcontroller.
Just as on Blue Peter, here's one I made earlier.

You could make it look as though the wiring and the battery was a bomb, nobody would go near the bike let alone try and steal it,main threat would be from the bomb squad doing a controlled explosion on it.

GPS tracking built into the frame. That way you can track them down and cut off their fingers.

It might cost allot to install.

I joined the bikeregister scheme so there are stickers and stencils on and a magic wand sensor for id if recovered- won't stop a get me home theft but maybe stop the more serious thefts. If it got stolen and recovered hopefully it would be useable.......
