With those loose cells and the plastic battery pack, does it have a circuit board to turn it off before it goes too flat or does that not matter?
it has over charge and discharge protection and the green light will start flashing when it is low and auto turn off about 3.2v

only thing you have to be careful about is the cells go in the right way round as there is no short circuit protection.

Firstly, the buttons on the back of the light change colour when the battery runs down. Secondly, the loose battery box has battery charge indicator lights on it, so you can see the battery go down. If that's not enough, get one of these:

i charged up 4 cells in the batt box with a 8.4v wall wart that comes with most batts from china and this is what the cells were after a full charge
4.24v
4.24v
4.23v
4.22v

so all cells are over 4.2v so id only use that way to charge the cells only if you have to as if you keep charging them like this all the cells will go out of whack balance wise over time and damage the cells.

How accurate is your meter? How long since you last changed the battery in it?

2 weeks ago it over charges the cells and then drains them to about 3-3.1v

thus why i use a separate charger for all my cells;)

I'd blame the BMS in the box not the charger !
I was considering buying a bat box but not now you posted your findings.
I thought it would be easier than useing my RC balance charger ;)

it is but just need to keep an eye on the cells voltage but with the 6 pack i got i doubt the will ever get as low as the bms cuts them off.

it was only 10 quid but i have other ways to charge them anyway so just a way to get them on my bike.

Would I be ok with a 4 battery box? My bike battery goes flat after 15-20 miles so I only need about 2 hours of light. The light I just ordered apparently uses 5 amps but I don't know what setting that is on?

5 amps lol more like 500ma half of 1 amp. but yes 4 should run a bike light for hrs if you get decent cells.

had to glue some small rubber feet on it as still moved a bit but solid as a rock now.

and some 3m sticky label like plastic Velcro for the usb.

I'm a fan of frame bags, they keep my light battery close to where the light is mounted and I can put all that stuff in there that would have been in my pockets, phone, money, keys, emergency fruit pastels ;) (other sources of quick energy are available) and a small coffee stop lock.

I was asking about the accuracy of your uncalibrated £5 voltmeter. You'll be lucky if the reading is within 0.2v of the actual. As the battery goes down, they always start reading high - as much as 50% over when the battery is nearly flat.

In other words, just because you see 4.24v in the LCD, it doesn't mean that's what you have.

Good news for me. The ebay seller has sent another battery pack. I just tested it after a 4 hour charge. It did 2.5 hours on full. I ran down the other one ND M giving that 4 hours and will time that tomorrow on full. Should be a lot quicker lol
