What happened there ?!

Anyone for my theory that the acceleration profile of an ebike vs petrol threw them ?

That was a bit of a mess. Seems like they need to rewrite the rule book to make it a lot clearer, put a camera on the line or maybe use a marker on rails instead of a pace bike (like a rabbit in greyhound racing).

Great bit of riding by Jason though, he stayed so very cool too, I think I was more nervous than he was. Most of my cocoa went over the dog when he crossed the finish line :)

I wondered that the electric motor bike was at its max speed and couldn't accelerate away. I thought the judges made a sensible decision cancelling both of the earlier races, they didn't have the technology to make a correct decision.
Well done Jason Kenny and Laura Trott.

I watched this for the first time yesterday and found it really exciting. I can't however understand the race format. Why is there a need for a pace bike for six laps when all the action happens in the final lap or two after the pace bike has left?

I reckon that the old IC bike relied on the rider to regulate the speed via the throttle and speedometer. When they get to the line, the derny accelerates off to make sure that nobody appears to pass.

The electric bike would be like ours where each level in the LCD can be fixed to an exact speed, so say level 1 is 30 km/h and level 2 is 50 km/h. No need for a throttle. Now, when he gets to the line, he can't accelerate, so the compeditors are immediately on him.

They never needed a camera on the line before because the derny could out accelerate the bikes when it passed it. Probably the best solution now is to either provide a throttle override (maybe he had one but didn't think to use it), or put a camera on the line.
