The difference though is that people would safely use horse dung on their vegetable plot but would you use dog crap? Horses are vegetarian dogs are not.As far as I'm concerned; if I'm expected to pick up my dog's crap, then all horse-riders should carry a bucket & scoop as part of their equippage..... And damn well use them.
Elvis Costello - A Good Year For The Roses - YouTubeBut horse riders allow their horses to drop huge piles of crap on roads and paths, and nobody says a thing.
On the one path I use regularly (the short-cut to Waitrose being the closest dash for a sandwich when I've run out of food and missed lunch !) it's usually lovers kissing in the middle of the path. I call it lovers' lane ... Feel a bit of a killjoy stroking my bell in the middle of their passion but they could at least move to a bench or something. But public displays of affection are such a rarity in Britain I haven't the heart to feel aggrieved !My other pet hate on shared cycleways is the two women, and it is always women, who have to walk side by side although they can see the path is busy with other walkers and cyclists.
Couldn't agree more. They ride through the village in Devon and have on a couple of occasions had them deposit a huge load right outside the gate onto the lane. It's usually followed by a 20-minute interlude out of one's day hosing it down into the nearest drain. At least all a dog poo requires is a plastic bag ... horse dung means going to the tool shed and finding a shovel or getting out the hosepipe. Unbelievably antisocial !As far as I'm concerned; if I'm expected to pick up my dog's crap, then all horse-riders should carry a bucket & scoop as part of their equippage..... And damn well use them.
I looked this up in the highway code and while it specifically states cyclists MUST stay on the cycling part there is no such condition placed on pedestrians to stay on their side. What infuriates me is on The Silkin Way, a national cycle route through the town park and many of the other cycle routes round about. It's clearly marked in two lanes: one for cyclists and one for dog-walkers/pedestriians, but the dog-walkers, dogs and pestrians don't take any notice of the markings. I wish that the path had a fence to segregate instead.
Yes, there if they lose they can be eaten instead! But of course, we all know the real reason why racehorses were allowed to gallop unfettered around Europe and the world....and return at will.........dont we......
You would think so but you would be suprised how many low/middle income families have a horse/pony.As I understand it, keeping a horse is a very expensive business these days, what with feeding, vet`s bills, farriers bills, tack etc. That being the case, horse ownership is the privilege of the well to do. So the very least they could do would be to have the butler follow them with a JCB to clean up the mess.
