I am still on my search for my first Pedelec and learning things all the time.

I am in Denmark and yesterday Jannie and I tested a Mosquito Street Energy ED2 which had all the nice things like B&M lights and Schwalbe tyres but there seemed to be no power in it.

I have been sending e-mails to Cytronex about a Cannondale CAAD9 and to their credit they are really not keen to take £4000 from me for 2 of these bikes beause they would not be able to provide the level of customer service that they would like.

After reading lots of reviews it now makes sense to buy close to home as I do not think I have read a review of any bike where some type of problem has not arisen, some of them serious problems needing work from mechanics.

I have arranged for my local bike dealer to get a Panther Polaris TE777 in for next Wednesday so Jannie and I can take it for a test ride. It retails at about £1800 and is at the top end of Panthers electrical bikes. I know a little about Pather cycles and they have a good reputation in Denmark and Germany.

Here are some specs on the bike and I would appreciate some comments from those more knowledeable than I.

Seems a bit pricey to me for what effectivly looks like basic kit.

Standard 250watt front hub and a 9amp hour battery.

Bike doesn't look to be anything special either but if you get good warrenty and support thats what you paying for.

Hi Steve

I like the fully enclosed chaincase but can't really get enthusiastic about anything else. I can see the attraction of hub motors if you were converting an existing bike, but now you're looking at complete bikes I think crank drives are worth considering too. Don't Kalkhoff have agencies in Denmark? They're not far over the border (Cloppenburg) and for the same price of 1799E you could get an 8 speed Agattu with the 8ah battery (1999E for the 18ah - well worth the extra). Or a 7 speed 2010 model with 12ah battery would be 1799E too. See kalkhoff-bikes.com I've got a two year old Agattu and it's excellent in every way (except maybe the 8ah battery, now only good for 20 miles, but I've ordered an 18ah one).

Cheers
Hugh
