Normally the motors in 20" wheels are a much faster wind than those in 26" ones. Also, if you have a 36v battery in yoour X24, it'll make the motor spin an extra 50% faster. That means 400 rpm or more (30 mph plus). The end result could be a very hot inefficient motor. You need to check that the motor doesn't get too hot, especially up hills. You might find your range goes down too.

That's not so bad then. How fast does it go now?

I'm temped to buy this folder, but although most reviews are positive quite a few have commented on the fact that it could do with more gears as it's hard to get over 16mph without peddling like a mad man. How easy would it be if at all possible to put a replacement gear set with more gears?

In my opinion the bike is not the best bike on the market if you are talking about just bikes. But it is a very cost effective way to get an ebike. Being that it is less in price than most kits.

What faversham has done is possibly a good way to get a more customised more decent bike. But remember that the battery is only 24V 8.5ah which is less than most others on the market today

I think your chainwheel is 48T. Single bigger chainwheels are available, but not so common as double ones with 52/39 or 53/39, which are quite common on Ebay. Be aware that you get different length cranks (from the centre to the pedal) and sometimes the cranks are rotated by 45 deg, which is no problem if it comes with the matching left side crank. Double ones are OK, and should fit straight on. You can leave the chain on the big chainwheel, and if ever you have some difficult to climb hills, you can hook the chain onto the smaller chainwheel with a twig or whatever, and then hook it back when you want more speed.
