Synergie Mistral handlebars

My Mistral has a reinforcing bar fixed across it which is taking up a lot of useful space. I would like to remove it because it does not seem to be doing anything useful and I would then have room to put some lights on my bike.

Flecc thinks it would be OK but suggests I do a general post to ask if anyone has had experience of this bar and what happens when you take it away. And experiences would be most useful.

Rod won't mind me adding that my approval was subject to on-road use and a fairly upright riding position without much weight on the arms, so steering stresses only.
