Next thing to try is to stick your probes in the battery connector and keep them there while you switch on. You have to open the controller compartment to do that. If the voltage drops, you have a short. If there is a short, it's probably a blown MOSFET in the controller. If the voltage doesn't drop, the problem is elsewhere.

Tested the battery voltage 41.7 V.
Disconnecting brakes (thanks) to check the brake sensors tomorrow - Saturday. ; ]
Ok, that's in the expected range. I would expect the motor to engage - any damage/squashing to any of the cables ?
