Thanks for your comments.
On the em3ev.com site :-
4 speeds are offered for DD motors 275,305,335 and 370.
3 speeds are offered for the MAC motors 200,255 and 320.

I need the slow motor because of the steep hills around here - what speed are your motors?

Hi we don't quote motor speeds we quote road speeds with a 26 inch wheel off 25 mph and will climb a steep hill with a 12 stone rider NO pedaling if you are heaver say 20 stone very light pedaling on the steepest hill

Thanks Frank

Frank,
That sounds like a 320ish motor speed - a bit high for my liking - I think your steepest hills are not like my steepest hills.
If you want a bike that eats hills for breakfast:

MAC 12T rear
12 fet 40A controller
48v battery, capable of supplying 40A continuous
2 x torque arms

emv3ev's Samsung battery fits neatly into the frame, and located exactly where you need a big pack to be:

50V 18.5Ah Samsung Triangle Pack

Will power you up the steepest of hills, with little worry of controller or motor overheat.
Would work out fairly expensive, but all robust components.

Yes, that's more or less exactly what I've got in mind, just thought I'd check out what's available in the UK.
I'm running a MAC 10T @ 48v with a 9 fet 30A controller.
It powers up the steepest hill I encounter, which is 17%.
The controller is inside a bag, and neither controller or motor have overheated or failed in over 1500 miles. I run this bad boy hard.
If you are planning on using any kit on long, steep hills, then over-engineering is the key to longevity.

Admittedly, it's always nice to buy from UK and you may get stung for import tax from overseas, but em3ev's kits are well worth waiting for.
Paul's after-sales service is second to none too.

Thanks F - I might get a DD motor as well, just to have a play around. I guess it won't be so good on the hills - 275rpm, but I'm curious to see what it's like. Not much extra with all the rest of the kit.

Hope you take the chance to look at our kits - all the same components as our bikes and all the motors are SB.

Hi If that is what you need our silent wing outputs 2,500 watts and will pull a 20 stone rider up any hill in the UK no pedaling

In all seriousness, have you ever fitted one to a cargo bike, Frank ? Sounds like they might be a good match for one of these.

2500W would be too much for me I have to admit - a 500W continuous / 1000-1500W max output still feels like a regular bike on 36V @ 270rpm w/26" tyres up steep hills with some light pedalling (gentle exercise), guess maybe you'd need 48V for a heavier rider to get the same effect, but 2500W is a heck of a lot of peak power. With a high-speed motor and that motor speed on the flat sections, I'd be reaching for my crash helmet and knee pads !
