suggestions for pannier?

my bikehut ones are not waterproof....

Any suggestions for rear panniers for my soon to arrive KTM Macina? needs to be waterproof without using binbag inside

Ortlieb I am aware of... But are there any others you might recommend?

Noticed this link on a earlier thread by Eaglerider, worth a look as I think this product would be a excellent waterproofing agent.

I have an Altura 15 Dryline bag for transporting my works laptop to and from home (I do on-call/pager). Can get a pair of waterproofs, fleece and a few sandwiches in the main compartment to. Has a small pocket for keys, mobile phone, wallet, works pass etc. very happy with it.

I did have the version for 17" laptops but it was way to big and I didn't like the way it sat on the rack - got fed up of peds telling me my bag was about to fall off!

Had looked at Altura... Got one of their jackets...

So far

Ortlieb rear ones .. Q1 heavier and trad. ortlieb material and Q2 lighter .. Big bucks ish but am used to ortlieb bags on motorbike etc
Altura.. Ell, high viz I guess . Reasonable price
Vaude Aqua plus..... Big bucks unless I choose a gross colour... Not sure of it yet. Not seen fittings
Carradice but perhaps not as waterproof.. Expensive again

also now am faffing about figuring out best sizes since I have seen some images of them on bikes. Do need rear panniers but not as big as touring ones............

Over the years I tried several makes of panniers before finally buying some Ortlieb. I’d always considered them too expensive but if I’d bought them in the first place I don’t think I’d have needed to replace them. They’re very well made, spares are readily available, and I believe Ortlieb offer excellent after sales support. Probably the most popular make for serious cycle tourists, and I can see why.

If, like me, you need to swap them between different bikes regularly the QL2 mounting system is best, but if you usually use them on the same bike the QL1 may be better, and cheaper.

Thanks... was in two minds mainly between ortlieb and the carradice ones. I have ordered the front carradice super c panniers as they are smaller and can be used on front if I ever get fit and go touring in the future. Also likes the slightly less bulky look..... Difficult choice and I will only find out if it is ok etc when I start using them....
