hi all been out a couple of times recently , road canal paths, about 20miles on my vita una but my suspention seatpost seems to have given up and gel saddle not really absorbing any bumps. I find I keep lifting my bum of the saddle every so often as I feel I am sitting on a paving slab.

I did purchase padded cycle trousers from liddl the other day, but having tried them on indoors, theres no way I am going to wear these outside. looked like a football stuffed in a sausage skin, (need to lose a bit of beer belly)

so sugestions for half descent sus seatpost and a saddle that can absorb some of the harshness , preferable with the circular pinch bolt fitting.

thanks all

The replacement seatpost needs to be the correct diameter to fit your frame. You can forget the type with a spring inside and a bellows at the top. The Suntour NCX parallelogram type give proper suspension to soften the blows to your backside.

Saddles are a bit different. You need one which fits your bum, so what's comfortable for someone else might not suit you. I found that wide flat ones give good support. I've tried a lot of saddles, and only the Brooks B67 has given me comfort over very long distances. A used one would be better than a new one.

Very second suntour ncx, great, close to actual rear suspension, I deliberately use a fat, ugly, cheap plastic saddle, but its to deter vandalism/theft

I am currently using a cheap gel saddle from lidl and find it comfortable and very shock absorbing.

I have been delighted with the suntour NCX and again from bike-discount.
Makes the original saddle totally great and cobbles towpaths of road etc it transforms a hardtail MTB

thanks for info re ncx and link to direct bikes Germany? I have seen these before but more expensive.

I have measured my seatpost its 27.2 mm dia ,looking on the website there are 4 ncx posts light/medium/hard 27.2 and one described as parollogram type but is 32mm dia?

are they the same type and exact model code please, delivery seems fairly reasonable

thanks all

They're all the same except different seat tube sizes and different springs.

thanks d8veh , when I enlarged image on website it became clearer they were parallegram type. I will order medium.
you were correct my existing suspention seatpost is indeed spring/gator type but they only seem to work for a couple of months then become useless.

thanks all once again

I have the medium and weight 87kg and it fine for me with a little pretension added.
They feel a little strange at first but the first time your peddling over rough stuff it feels amazing the best accesorie I have bought second only to the badass dongle
Mine came with the shroud that I thought was extra, un boxed with no instructions though you don't need any.
Unwrap the shroud and add some light lubricant some reviews have stated theirs seized without oiling but worked once they had added lube and the newer suntour post has bushes to prevent seizure.
Weighs a bit compared with the original seat post but no problem on an Ebike.

i'm light and unadjusted it felt vry hard at first - then i adjuted it to its softest (it involves unscrewing in the bottom of the seatpost), i kept the shroud because i was hoping it would make it less attractive, it is very very good, probably you wont need agood saddle with it

I fully agree about the saddle transformed the comfort on the Haibike saddle which is supposed to be a good saddle. Felt distinctly thin until I fitted the suntour susp post

and yes the shroud does look ugly and hides those lovely linkages and the engineering but not sure how it would stand up to the leicestershire mud, so reluctantly kept the shroud fitted after oiling.

Just a word of warning, you can't get the full benefit of an ncx if you have a frog mount battery like me - then it becomes a very tricky setup act!

I've got a big 12-FET controller mounted to the seat post of my latest build and it's currently the only thing stopping me from adding an NCX. I just don't know where I'd relocate it to.

I have seen the ncx fitted to a ktm ebike but when I googled it prices in the uk are £70 ish.

however thanks to the above info bikes direct the ncx /I ordered the shroud as well inc delivery came in just over £43 rip of uk.
the only thing I can see happening is someone nicking seatpost+saddle if left out of sight might have to device a way of locking seatpost to the frame

I thought about this too and wondered whether one of those 60cm x 0.6cm lightweight poundland cable locks threaded through the parallelogram once and through the frame might deter a casual opportunist (and could be threaded through the underneath-bars of a good saddle too) (?)

Unless you need to alter the seat post height on a regular basis it would help a little with security to change the quick release to one with an allen key, it just makes it less of an impulse theft target.
A word of caution for anyone with a B17 saddle, I had to widen the saddle rails in a vice to make room for the linkage, not an easy fix!

Dave.
