Ever wonder how they get ships through the Suez canal? Check out this web page:

Live Ships Map - AIS - Vessel Traffic and Positions

There is a P&O cruise ship going through this morning. If you hit the vessel button at the top of the page then type in Oriana for the vessel name and select Passenger for the vessel type and click the show vessels - hit the passenger, cargo and tanker side buttons it will show the vessels position in real time.

You can also see a frequently updated cam of the ship going through the canal using the ships' webcam link:

I like the way they queue up at either end then send them in from both ends and do the crossover in the Bitter Lake area.

Yes, the English Channel is much like the M25.

It's a pity it doesn't show the positions of the Somali pirates.

You would just need to hide an AIS unit on their boats - surprised the SAS don't do this - or maybe they do!

Brilliant! Could play for hours if there wasn't a kitchen to decorate/a book to finish/a tent to dry out! It does make the transit of Bridge Foot in Warrington look almost easy. Almost ....
Thanks very much for posting it!

Maybe Lynda,

But the Suez Canal isn't the problem, it is the Grand Union Canal I am worried about and some of the anglers are going to get mighty upset when that monster comes into view:eek:

Hi John,

Did you opt for economy shipping?

CMA CGM LAPEROUSE - Vessel's Details and Current Position - 9454412 - 228345800

I notice it poodles along at 20mph, now if your cargo bike wasn't restricted to 250W.......
Hi Shemozzle,

I don't book the shipping, that is all taken care of by the manufacturer.

Shipping goods by container is a relatively cheap and economical method of transporting goods, the largest container ships can now carry 18,000 x 20' containers.

To express that in other terms 3.6 billon iPads on one ship or enough to supply half the world population.
