Giguana,

I don't know if you've built your Luxeon type lights yet, but whilst looking for something else I stumbled across this eBay seller's driver PCB: 1W LED Driver for Luxeon White Green Blue on eBay, also LEDs, Components Supplies, Electrical Test Equipment, Business, Office Industrial (end time 23-Jan-08 12:34:40 GMT) .

This little switch mode driver will run up to 4 1W Luxeon type LEDs in series from up to 24V. Two of these drivers in series would drive 6 to 8 1W LEDs from 32V to 48V.

Might be a cost effective way of running your set-up, especially as they are constant current drivers, so will be pretty efficient and not need any heat sinking etc.

Hope this helps.

I don't know how effective it is but it's not the best looking headlight I've ever seen!
I would guess that being powered by 3xAAA batteries it's not particularly bright, either that or it's battery life is measured in minutes. LED's are more efficient than filament lamps but still have appreciable power demands when used at higher powers in large quantities.
