After a comment on another thread I thought it might be a good idea to start a Strava club for electric bikes.
This could have quite a few benefits for us such as seeing if others are riding in your area, comparing similar motors, even checking out performance of bikes before purchase.

It would be an ideal place for dealers to show people just what their various models can do in the real world.
You can find the club on the link here http://www.strava.com/clubs/108312

For those of you that have not heard of Strava its an app available for Android,iOS and also dedicated gps such as Garmin
The website is at http://www.strava.com/running-app and it can be downloaded from this link.

It is completely free to download and use although you can buy the premium version with heart monitor etc if you wish.

A great idea. Should it be for 250 Watt (or less) motors only with the nominal 15 mph cut off? So that we are comparing what we generally think of as a legal bike? (I know, I know).

That's no good to me, I do not leave a single ride on the board done on the e-bike. Virtually every ride will have a KOM, and it isn't in the spirit of Strava to leave assisted rides on the leader board.
I suppose I could join to see how my non e-bike rides stack up though.

Same as that. I'm finding myself pulling down more and more rides, as every outing creates one or more KOM's.
Taking this one ride from two weeks ago just as an example, all of those lads on the leader board deserve their place where they are.

I also became fed up with so many rides being flagged up.

I now just use Strava to keep a track of my overall mileage and leave it at that.

If I make it private would that keep the results private as well?
ie so just the club members see them and we dont upset the lycras.

I'm in Bristol too. Currently using muscle power to get my KOM,s
I find a legal bike slower than my recumbent. (As long as I avoid hills)
Getting regular 27+kph 20 km runs now.
I realy enjoy overtaking a Ferrari stuck in traffic on my regular route;-)
Now joined. What's your name sunny jay jay?

Yes unfortunately when you make the ride private it will take the mileage of that ride off the total mileage on the club page.

I have a good relationship with most of the top riders locally, and they all know that if I pinch a KOM off them, I'm only borrowing it off them for the day.

Even though I wasn't on a level footing to start with I've really enjoyed Strava, now that I do some rides on equal terms I'm enjoying it much more, I'm a long long way down the leader board now, but love being able to track my progress.

My e-bike has been an enormous help, and the fact you have to put the effort in to get the best from the lowest powered bosch system has been a good spring-board back to unassisted cycling.

My bike is considered by many to be a very poor hill-climber. Here's me taking 55 seconds out of the National hill climb champion on a short local climb.

He did a good article of his day in the area, there are two photos of the top of that climb in the article.

Actually I think I jumped in too early. Now I have looked in more detail at Strava I am not sure if I am that keen - it is all about being competitive! What I thought it was is a group to share routes, rides, perhaps even arrange meet ups. So I'll probably not pursue this, but we'll see. Name-wise, please call me Jay Jay.

For me I am the competion. I race against myself. My fitness is coming up steadily.
You can see where others ride but if you want to know where to go just ask? Today I did winterbourne to rangeworthy, tytherington, aveiston, amondsbury, earthcot and back home. 21 miles in 75 minutes.
Fast for me on a normal(ish) bike.

You can leave the competitive bit out if that's not your thing, and just enjoy the sharing of routes and the social side. Checking the leader boards after a ride to see if the person you waved at whilst out does Strava also allows you to get to know the local riders.

Absolutely - the competition is me.

In Brighton along the seafront route I take to work getting a KOM requires a motorbike. They are all around 30mph or more ! So I don't have to worry about fairness to others really

I will join up !

Great idea :)

I see there's 6 members and 3 of us are posting rides. It's good to see what others are up to on their ebikes.

How do I sign up via my app on an iPhone?
I don't think it's possible -I ended up having to reset my password to join up

Done though - but as I'm flat on my back with a lower back problem I'm not going to be racking up any miles anytime soon
