Strange disc brake phenomenon

Did you buy organic pads? They work better at low temperatures so may explain the improvement you are seeing, the downside is they wear out quicker, especially if they get hot.

The replacement pads are organic, but I'm pretty sure the old ones were too. I'm still not sure what was wrong with the old pads, but after I'd remove the glaze they'd glaze over again after just a few braking attempts. Not too worried about accelerated wear of the new pads since regen means they are only really used for the last few mph to stop.

Everytime I get a motorcycle in for roadtest I bed in the rear brake again over 2 miles, because they never get used they are next to useless without some heat put into the pad an rotor.

Use your brakes more frequently and you shouldn't have any issues wih them.
