Having lost a bike in similar circumstances I am now more vigilant so every morning over my strong coffee I review last nights CCTV which isn't as long a job as you may think as it only records when triggered by movement, usually by our neighbourhood Hedgehog, and the local cats on the prowl. A few weeks ago it recorded 5 hooded youths who came from my neighbours garden at 3.30am looking around through windows and the like and as their only access would have been over fences and through several gardens, and my neighbours are late 80's and disabled, I checked everything was OK, which it was, but later that morning I spotted 2 police cars further up the road so went over to see what had happed.
It would seem that someone had gained access to another house through an open window and took the car keys and of course the car, so I explained my CCTV footage to the police officer and she said the stolen car was seen in Bradford at 3.10 am and as My CCTV was shot as 3.30 the two were not linked.
If I were investigating this, the car sighing was 10 minutes away meaning it was stolen at around 3am, and these hoodies could easily spend another half an hour wandering through the gardens before they got to me so I would have been interested in seeing my footage..
To be fair to the police officer she did visit my elderly neighbours to make sure they were ok and offer security advice, but that's all.
