Stolen Bike Check.

You did well, softens the blow but extremely worrying that bicycle theft is so rife now in the UK.

I hope your new bike will not fall foul of thieves can you take any other preventive measures?

I'll be looking for a bike that I can wheel inside the house at night but out and about if you need to park it while shopping etc I guess its a bit of a headache?
They are well locked up at home and I dont leave them anywhere.

Just asking a general question.

Gubbins, did your bike also have the grey coloured Intuvia console and control switch surround? I always thought that the grey colour was representative of the Active Line motor and not Performance or CX.

Hard to say, but I'd say grey for the console, as on the Ebay bike, but black for the control switch, which is unlike the Ebay bike.
Looking through my phone pics this is the last one I took before it went and I see that mine had a small sprocket and silver locknut and the ebay bike appears to have the built in bash ring nut.

So not mine then but still a coincidence of note.

I know exactly where it goes. Up through the golf club and on to a smaller track that leads into riddlesden.
Since the golf club closed, a large boulder has blocked the way but it's passable
Thanks I might give that a go,do you ever ride over the tops towards lunds tower?

A simple question to the seller will reveal all. Where did you get it from? or why is there no battery? When he says, "I got it from a police recovery auction", you don't need to ask much more. Maybe there's another rational explanation. I can think of a few.People don't normally advertise stolen bikes for 25 days!

Assuming the bike is being sold legitimately I reckon it's hard to judge a fair price.

A new battery and lock would be £700, but the bigger problem is there's no way to test the motor.

You could put a borrowed battery on the bike, but as soon as the battery clicks home there's no way of removing it without the key.

It might be possible to blank the locking mechanism and still wedge the battery in place sufficiently firmly to make electrical connection.

Buying the bike without firing up the motor puts you at risk of a total recommissioning bill of about £1,500.

With that in mind, paying anything more than £1,500 for it doesn't make much financial sense.

My first thoughts were.. It has to be stolen if only because the sale is offered without explanation on the missing battery.. and secondly its the same as mine! It could be genuine, or have been acquired legitimately with the buyer/seller not knowing its history .. who knows. The original price was £3400, not £3700 as advertised and it will be a lot less now.. SW?
I dont generally think the worst of people but perhaps recent experience is clouding my judgement
