Since losing my HGV Licence six years ago, because of angina, I have not used the roads at all, prefering to walk, however since getting my E-bike some weeks ago I have discovered what an appalling state the roads are in, cycling home from work is a nightmare , my route is governed by two useless one way systems, and the last stretch is awful......potholes, cracks, raised manholes and so on, has anyone else found this ??..........Del.

Yep and at least on a bicycle you are travelling slow enough to notice and avoid the worst.

On a motorbike some roads are pretty much lethal.

Yes, it's a real problem in most areas, and certainly true in my South London-Surrey-Kent area.

I have to say I was very impressed by most road surfaces in Dorset during several visits there last year. Admittedly I was in a car, but it's a hard suspension one that shows up all road imperfections. It seems Dorset County Council and the Highways Authority do cope much better than many in keeping at least all the roads I used across most of the county in good surface condition.

I agree, Kents roads are pretty bad. I would not go back to a motorbike now, its bad enough on an E-bike. But on a good note it has made realise the importance of a helmet.

Yes it`s patches , patches and more patches in Barry where I live . In fairness the Council try very hard but it`s a losing battle . I heard on the News tonight that money is going to get even tighter and they are predicting a 90% cut in roads funding in the future . When the Country grinds to a halt , perhaps the Politicians will try and work out why ?

Oh ... we were planning on doing Kent on the cycles this summer. What's the area like around Margate? Herne Bay any better?

Im can only answer for North-West Kent which is often poor, potholes and patches.

Any members knowing East Kent who can answer Biker44's query above?

That's about 70 miles away from Flecc, Kent's pretty wide. I generally find the roads round there OK and better than they are near London.

But...I have just found out...the roads around my area for the cycle routes for the Olympics, are miraculously smooth and rut/pothole/crack free now.....how strange.....

Same as the way that slightly ugly but perfectly functional junctions near Olympic venues have recently been rebuilt so they look photogenic.
After this is finished Greenwich park will be wrecked.
