Spring Drive bike experiment

Still in the test stage this spring drive is now running well. The drive is taken to the inner chainwheel. Power is initially achieved by winding up the three springs with the key. The springs are rewound when going downhill so almost 100% power recovery. Tests have shown this wind up to work quite well. The cam seen in the centre gives 12 stages of power. Very quiet in operation with only a soft tick which you can barely hear when talking. Bit more time needed to tidy things up. With a carbon fibre case and the key gold plated it should look quite striking. Any comments please feel free to chime in.

It would be interesting to know the true efficiency. There have been many designs for spring driving bikes previously of course, there's one such design on this link.

I like it ! I assume legal cutoff at 15.5 mph ?

In which case I have designed a method for extracting speeds up to, and including, ludicrous speed.

It's based the badass "dongle"

Essentially it is a device containing two small mirrors. The mirrors go either side of 3 springs. So if you look into either mirror there are now infinite springs stretching away

Be careful that chain doesn`t do a Parry Jones on you ie wrapped around your neck causing strangulation, as might have happened to the Driver of Babs at Pendine in 1927 . This is disputed now and they think the upturned racing car might have been the cause . In any event don`t fall off the contraption or you won`t see the Summer of 2016 !

I don't usually get caught by these but this time I was since there's been a number of spring drive bikes I knew of in the past, some of them really eccentric.

Yours was unintentionally leaning towards practical!

Glad you enjoyed it. I done one a couple of years back on a watch forum using a faked up Vacheron Constantin watch. Fooled lots of experts ,I even got mails from Geneva asking for more details . Brilliant laugh.

Aubervilliers is a less salubrious suburb of Paris as you will no doubt be aware.
Admiral Ce Lyon had a long and distinguished carreer in the Swiss navy and invented the waterproof watch.
The 'Silk Strap' was from my ID tag at Vacheron Constantin.
