Help! Speed Sensor Question

Snapped the bracket on my speed sensor on my commute today. Strapped it up to stop it hitting the spokes and noticed that apart from the controller throwing a #21 error, it rode absolutely fine.

Do I actually need it?? One less thing to go wrong if I can delete it.

My one went kaput once on my BBSHD and it didn’t stop me from riding it, but I fixed it when I got home.

The only thing that stopped working was the odometer.

They are very flimsy and vulnerable, especially on an MTB with lots of low level branches about to get it caught up on.

Not too sure about that one, but many Chinese system have a setting for sleep mode that turns off your system after a set time if the speed sensor doesn't indicate motion.

My bbs 01 woudn't work with a broken speed sensor , though maybe the new 01b's are ok.
In the end though I ditched it in favour of my hubs which are I find far more reliable .
