Hi guys looking to venture into the ebike world, been riding motorcycles for 40 years road and dirt. Looking to use it mainly off road. Looking at a stealth bomber, but that not road legal due to its speed/ power. Looking at the possibility for an electronic power/speed limiter/controller so I can ride it to the venue close by then let lose.(rather than load it into the car to take to the venue)Any advice in this grey area of suitable devices.

Technically that change is likely to be counted as an 'off-road switch' and hence illegal on the road even if temporarily tied to 15.5mph/250w. The definition of an 'off-road switch' is very vague.

Also if you are riding off-road in an area generally open to the public (such as bridleways, cycle paths, canal paths, etc) it will still be illegal if it exceeds the 15.5mph assisted, 250w nominal power limits.

In both cases if you are riding responsibly you are unlikely to have any problems. The most likely issue will be if you have an accident, in which case the police and the other party's insurance company or lawyers may look rather closely at the technicalities.

This is to be used on private land that is set aside for motocross bikes. Any links to an off road switch

It's not legal to ride it on the road or any other public place whatever you do with it. To be legal, your bike must have a motor rated at no more than 250w and the power must stop when you stop pedalling. Full range independent throttles are not allowed.

To make it legal to ride to your venue, you'd have to put in a temporary 250w motor, a pedal sensor of some sort, a device that switches off the throttle when you pedal, and a speed restriction device. It's not going to be easy to find a 250w motor that works at 15 mph with 72v.

The police have started clamping down on such bikes. If you get caught, they'll confiscate it.You probably won't get charged unless you were doing something daft.
