That could explain why I got back so quick today.

But no it isn't on the wrong way. :)

It's pretty dull cleaning an already clean bike though. :(

I have my eye on an old steel framed race bike to restore and detail over Xmas, and I'm just hoping that I can get it delivered in time. I hate having nothing to do. It does my head big time when I'm not doing something practical. :(

Just let it be known that you offer a free bicycle and motorcycle cleaning service Eddie.

You'll never again be without something to do!

And you might be surprised at the generosity and frequency of the tips given by grateful owners. Many people just hate cleaning them.

I'll tell you what flecc, I've thought about it.

Just keep me supplied with real ale. ;)

I did start to take on motorcycle repairs when I was carrying out the restoration work, but ultimately felt that people started to take the pee out of me.

Even just buying up bikes such as Cols dealer offer, detailing them, and then moving them on again, could be a good way of me keeping my 'relative' sanity. It's also a good way to further learn basic mechanics.

I was in a friends cycle shop yesterday, and it occurred to me what a shocking state that many people keep their bikes in. He specialises in off road bikes, mainly expensive down hill kit, and it stunned me to think that people can't even manage to keep a chain correctly lubricated and free from mass corrosion. There was even a set of wheels that someone had brought in, that must have just been removed straight from riding, with both the tyres and wheels caked in mud and crap. What does it take just to wash something off, before expecting someone else to work on it. Many of the bikes that were in for work, were just as bad. I guess that many, bikes are just a tool for job and nothing more.
I don't think that I'd last long in the bike business. :D

I did leave the shop after having bought myself more bike servicing tools though. I'm slowly building my kit up.

That is the trouble Eddie, people do start to take advantage and for while I suffered the same with car work for others.

I don't clean bikes very often, but once started like to do a good job, but I'm not surprised at what you say, most people are incredibly lazy, here's an example from today.

Where I live there's a binroom for refuse shared with six others which I try to keep tidy. I usually start the week after the Tuesday AM refuse collection with one of the wheelie bin lids open for others to just conveniently drop their refuse bags in. This afternoon the first time since Tuesday I popped my head into the room and found bags piled high into and above, well on their way up to the ceiling. The other bins, all empty, still had their lids down, obviously it was far too much effort for someone to lift a lid open. One resident even finds it too much effort to open the door to that room, he always just drops his refuse bag onto the floor outside as he leaves.

Not quite, but you were in the right area.

I've had to resort to carrying a metal hook/pick inside of plastic tube, to clean the crap out from besides the front sprocket. The pick can be seen on the table in the workshop photo.

Is the following from todays ride better. :) http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/ktm-corner.19044/page-8#post-245156

The bike has a rear puncture and it's out again on Xmas day with someone else riding it, and I really couldn't face cleaning it until then, so whilst it was up on the work bench, I thought that I scrape the mud off and weigh what I could. 1.5kg of crud came off. Good job the William Tell hadn't been with me, or it would have taken his Haibike to over the weight of a bag of cement. ;)
