This morning a gentleman from Somerset rang me asking for a Cyclone type chain drive motor for his recumbent trike, but I was unable to help him:(

He is looking for a kit that will enable him to do 50 to 60mph on the road:eek::eek::eek:

The best recumbent trikes are capable of 75 mph downhill, so his request was perhaps not quite as out of the ordinary as it might seem to the normal cycling scene. The Somerset levels area is flat as a pancake so he may be able to gear mainly for speed if he rides in that area. A 1500 watt Cyclone might suffice for a prone seating recumbent to approach those speeds, but it's a big ask.

You are being boring. Get the 1500w cyclone and a boat load of lipo and mega controller thats capable of 4kw you could do it.

I watched a video where people where doing those speeds unassisted down a closed road... lol.

Yes I agree, those speeds are possible, he was wanting to hit 50 to 60 mph on the levels and be able to 'fly' up into the Mendips.

He'd certainly need the SRAM dual drive's gear range at least to do both.

Go to endless sphere and you can find just such devices, I would not use a cyclone as their life can be short and they are beeping noisy.
Even better advise don"t wreck it for the rest of us please, this is the kind of c..p that will get e-bikes banned.

The batteries will only last about 4 miles anyway... Hardly wrecking anything for us.

Let them build it. Then they will realise its too quick and doesn't suit the roads.
The way some of you harp on about such things is like there the worlds most evil people in the world.

True.

Oh, and the old argument "they'll ruin it for the rest of us and get ebikes banned!".

Have we seen road cars banned because Ferrai, Mclaren, Mercedes etc now produce cars capable of 200mph? No, we haven't.

The worst that would happen is that the enforcement of current legislation will become stricter and that would only affect those outside of the legislation anyway. Those goody two shoes types who only consider strictly legal bikes (I know, I'm being flippant) will be able to carry on blissfully unaware.
