Smart ebike. Battery lock key replacement

I've just acquired a Smart eBike. The key to the battery lock is missing and the previous owner doesn't remember being given one with the bike. There is a number stamped on the lock itself. Should I be able to get a replacement from Smart given this number?

nope even if it was the key would cost more than the hole bike

I wouldn't think it's a special SmarteBike key, just a key. It might be awkward but if you could let a locksmith see it you might get a resolution.

I have a Smart car which isn't made any more but all parts are available.

Smart ebike much a different case with a limited sales market, you may be fortunate.

Even Smart are unlikely to have created a custom key.

A little reading of the forum suggests the Smart eBike seems to bring out the worst in some members. It will suit my purpose very well and I will continue to get pleasure from a beautiful design beautifully put together.

I think in the main case it was the owner taking a delight in provoking a reaction once he realised he could wind people up.

The Smart pedelec or its like are never likely to get a very favourable reception in what is really an enthusiasts web site. Direct Drive motor and single speed don't cut it with the cognoscenti, but with good reasons there is a market for such bikes.

I'd forgotten they adopted the Canadian BionX direct drive motor with integrated SRAM gear hub on the last model. Previous efforts by Mercedes/Smart were single speed with a different make ungeared DD motor.

A long long time ago I spent my school and university holidays working in a BMW dealership parts department

Pretty sure the cheapest thing in the entire catalogue was a keyring ....at 8.99 (more than two decades ago !

I’d say you got a bargain !!


Edit - back then I can tell you lots of bmw and Mercedes parts were the same . If we needed something on the right car we’d often go over the road and get some from the merc dealership. Brake calipers , pads especially I recall
