Smaller Alternative replacement Display to a Kingmeter NOKEE-U

Hello everone,
Thought I’d try and see if anyone has any useful ideas for my project..
I own a Westhill Ghost 1.0 ebike (also found the Jetson Adventure to be the same bike with a different branding).
I very much appreciate the bike for not looking like an ebike at all with the battery hiding in the frame and the 250w hub motor also not calling much attention to itself.
However, it’s equipped with a Kingmeter Nokee-U display that completely blows the otherwise incognito nature of the bike by being enormous and super tacky (for me). I’d love to replace the display with something smaller and more discreet, but can’t quite figure out compatibility, and also worried not only that I may not just end up with something that won’t work, but also that if I choose incorrectly, I may damage my controller.

The components are as follows:
Display: Kingmeter NOKEE-U with Joulet plug.
Controller: Lishui LSW860-45-1
Motor: AIKEMA AKM-13.0

Throughout my research into this, I’ve come across a forum thread up here where someone was trying to find a replacement KD58C display, for a bike that also uses a Lishui controller (LSW860-41F) which I thought was very promising, and I actually really like that display and the price I could get it at!
I’ve also emailed Lishui to ask for specs of my controller in case that would give me enough info to go by, but instead of getting back a PDF, I got a reply which just says is that “the display for this controller is a 5S protocol”, but they also said it has a 6 pin connector whereas mine is 5 pin so not sure if I can trust this, and it also gave me no buzzwords like KT or KD that I picked up on from forum threads regarding display types. King meter for the NOKEE states “Communication: UART; LIN; CAN” and they do have nicer smaller displays (like the “digital II”)but I’m absolutely not prepared to pay the money they want for it, also that has a thumb throttle which I’d like but not sure it would work with my setup, as my bike only has pedal assist.
At this point as I really fancy the KD58C, I’d love to figure out if it could be compatible with my setup, or find another sure-fire suggestion for a more compact alternative display.
Any input appreciated!

Seems like you have 2 options
1) spend the extra and buy a controller and display pair known to work together, or
2) take a punt via a distant seller and return as unwanted if it fails to perform and rinse/repeat until options are exhausted or success.

There may be further hurdles beyond selecting the correct communication protocol if the controller system f/w has been modified to comply with regs, a non modded display may not be a viable option??

Option 1 is out of question, I'm not pouring money into this where it's not a necessity, not to mention there's no way a replacement controller would fit back into the frame as it is now, (battery pack and controller are shaped to the contour of the frame and attach seamlessly together) and like I said the main reason I like the bike is because it doesn't call attention to itself with external battery mountings, thick frame or anything for that matter other than that crap tacky big display.

Option 2 is also half out of the question, because I don't think I could freely experiment with displays without running the risk of damaging the controller (I've read at least one such experience where the controller died after fitting a non compatible display and it makes some sense that things could be messed up too.

Your "non-modded display" mention just adds another potential dead end, as I noticed that the current one is severely restricted in the settings options compared to what it should allow me to set/modify, which indicates a fw lock.
The idea was and still remains that perhaps someone has more experience with these Lishui controllers, and has some valuable info on what I should be looking for. If not, then I'll stick with this ugly thing until something dies and actually forces the replacement of the controller..

Not a legal solution without getting your bike tested and certified, But you could try running the bike headless without pas and just by throttle control alone. remove the display and short the controller connecting pins 1 and 2 (red wire ,battery voltage and Blue wire , lock) to bypas the display on/off. the bike should run with throttle control and no display now? ( beware a risk of bricking your controller)

Alternatively the equally friendly pedelec.de has a few f/w guru's on board, and re-flashing/reprogramming some controllers with original? or alternative f/w may be a possibility?

Interesting thoughts! I would actually love a thumb throttle only option, because I hardly use the PAS, (mainly only for prolonged uphill sections, and sometimes for pulling away). I enjoy cycling, and the exercise bit of pedalling, and the NINE levels of assist to a total of 15Mph is somewhat ridiculous, as to toggle up and down the assist levels quickly is more than daft. I'd very much enjoy having the assist purely on demand. I haven't seen any official thumb throttle options for this system obviously. The aftermarket options stated that they're only for setups with a single crank sprocket, which mine isn't.
Funny enough King Meter has the Digital II, which is a small screen with thumb throttle, but I don't have an idea if it would work, and not even been able to see any purchase options for it.
I think the worse bit about this all, besides my reluctance to pour silly money into this "upgrade" is the risk of causing damage to the controller with a non-compatible accessory.
My grand idea - having seen that most screens are hard to come by and a working screen still fetches decent money - was to find a suitable smaller alternative to my screen, and once I got it, sell mine, to make this as close to a zero cost up/downgrade as possible.

You can normally change the nine levels of assist to five levels or even three in the settings. IMHO, 9 is too many.

Well.. I've seen on youtube the plethora of stuff you COULD be setting and modifying in the Nokee-U in general. Westhill however says NO!
3 settings is all I get. Mph/Kph, wheel size and weirdly, top speed for the assist, which can seemingly be pushed above 15mph..
This heavy restriction gave me my new fear that perhaps I wouldn't be able to use any different display with the bike..

Perhaps buy via amazon and if no joy return for a full refund. There has to be at least some benefit to the decline of the high street ..
