On the advice of some members I bought the good lady the above camera for Xmas and she was really pleased with it, (thank god). I say that because, and probably like a lot of us, I usually get it wrong. One look at the face when she's opened the parcel in past years tells me that and what makes it worse it's usually followed by, thank you very much I love it,-- yea, you could have fooled me.

Anyhow she was genuinely pleased so thanks for the advice. Just one question, when she charges the battery for the first time should it be for a minimum time?

just stick it on charge until the batt bar is full.

With mine there's a small red LED above the screen - goes off when it's fully charged. Don't think there's an expectation of a minimum charge time for the first one. At least, that's to say I didn't and mine's fine.

My new Fl12 CE has arrived and am pleased with the footage. Video quality is really good, but as usual it is not so good on YouTube, however, what is apparent is the smoothness from the IS.. Watching it makes me think I am floating over the road, not on a bumpy road bike with hard tyres with the only a bit jerkiness as it tries to compensate for turning the bars..

try and render the vid in other software then upload it to you tube and see if that improves the vid.

I used cycliq own software on this vid but I also bought Adobe premiere elements that I have used with the same result. I have noticed that whatever program I have used the output file is always smaller than the original.

Cycliq software also offers Strava metrics but that was a total fail.. it had me doing 35 kph when I was almost stopped.

Will look at your suggestion later.

could be the file format the cam uses for the vid cant you just use the raw footage and take it from the sd card?

resolve is not that hard to use as it is a colour editing software why i had red lines all over the place lol.

you could always get a go pro 6 and do 4k vids

It's worth keeping in mind that with youtube, there is a point where increasing the quality or bitrate of videos you upload will not result in any appreciable gains in quality in the final youtube stream. This is because youtube re-encodes all videos you upload and targets rather low bitrates (1.5 Mbps VP9 for 1080p30/24 and 5 Mbps for 1080p60). So you can go ahead and upload a 50 Mbps source, but once youtube is done re-encoding it you'll effectively be capped to whatever bitrate youtube targets for its streams.

yeah i have to render 4k vids b4 i upload to utube as cant edit 4k vids with the you tube editor as have to be 1 file to upload.

it dont look that bad on my tv but with resolve you can play about with the lighting so maybe that will help.

Some cameras have exposure compensation.. The fly 12 in your vid and the CE that I have dont. I have put it through Adobe Premiere and easily rectified the imbalance but it will only render at 30FPS. I will tilt the camera down a bit to add more road which should change the balance and lighten the vids.

not sure what sensor it uses but it is really dark on all of them like my cam is naff in low light but they seem even worse tbh.

id bung it on ebay and go for a gopro and separate light then you can have 4k at 30fps and at least you got a 4k monitor to watch the raw video on also.

but might get expensive if you want to keep all the footage storage wise in 4k.

All these cameras make fantastic Youtube videos. You can see exactly what happens; however, it's very difficult to find one that can get a clear picture of the vehicle number plates when the vehicles are moving at normal speed (I don't mean stationary!)

The Fly12CE at 1080P @60fps needs 1.7GB for each 10 minute segment so what space 4K video needs I can only wonder at. ( But I am sure SW will add that detail.)

4k 30fps uses 32gb per 60 mins on mine anyway storing the files and transferring them at speed around a network can be done at a price of course.

just use 10gb networking for that as will be 10gb per second transfer rates tho expensive

If you want to record a journey to show your friends, use 1080P. If you want evidence for any incidents, use 4K and loop recording. With a 5 minute loop, you'd only need a few GB of storage.

Garmin Virb Edit. Give it a try as it works with any camera and if you give it the Strava GPX file you can add loads of geeky stuff and renders mine at 60FPS..
