When i turn the system on i get error code 7 'over voltage protection'. I don't see how to change the voltage settings in the software on the controller or the computer. So the question is how do i rectify my mistake. Keeping in mind I bought direct from china.

Nothing for it but to get a different battery? Had hoped there was some slick rewiring or programing i could do.
The only way to run that BBS01 with a 48 V battery is to disconnect the internal controller and use an external 48 V one but the pedals will spin 33% faster... I am very impressed that the controller has an over voltage safeguard and didn't just go pop with a whiff of smoke.
All in all it seems like a decent bit of kit. They do have a 48v option with this set up hence my confusion.
They do. You could order a 48 V controller I guess. I don't know if anything else differs between the two versions. RPM goes from 83 to 87 with the Bafang 48 V controller.

I wouldn't buy a 48v controller. The crank speed will be all wrong and not very efficient. You have to decide whether to get a new complete motor or a new battery.
My technical experience is pretty solid. Im used to controllers that have a range of input options hence getting caught off guard by this issue. (I scratch built a cnc router including open source programing ) But i do agree changing the battery seems like the best option as i dont want to go swaping parts on my brand new mid drive.

It says "old version" if you have the newer B version of the controller, the one with better mosfets, it won't fit. You want the 48V350W version which has an RPM of around 107 unloaded.

Unfortunately it looks like I have the b version. Oh well I just came across an e-bike for $200 if it's in good condition it just needs a battery which I happen to have so sell that one and fix up what I'm currently working on.
