Sheds for ebikes

Have just been discussing the sense in moving my bike from the garage into a shed of some sort. It would certainly make the garage a bit easier to use and navigate. Especially with the possibility of having a second
ebike in the near future...

For clarity, we live in a very safe area. Neighbours would tend to notice ne're-do-wells and there is no through route on foot let alone for vehicles! So extreme security is not required. (I hope!) Also, no need to store more than two bikes. Ease of getting bikes in and out is important.

It would have to be placed in a very conspicuous location down the side of the house. So aesthetics are vital! And compactness. As is ability to withstand pretty strong winds and horizontal rain.

Yes - have searched the forums. Found posts praising Asgard - but I don't think a metal shed would go down very well. Found posts mentioning Ketter - but I don't think a plastic shed would go down very well. Found posts mentioning wooden sheds - often saying quite how many there are out there! So ended up searching the internet and found one that looks pretty good:

Would like to put shingles on it (to match existing shed), and would finish it myself (loads of suitable product in the garage).

Has anyone got any observations, or alternative suggestions? It might be very well made, but it is expensive for what is, basically, "just" a wooden shed. I'd be perfectly happy to fit gas struts and lock anchor, already have a decent shed lock available, etc.

I wanted a shed for my garden but non of the the off the shelf offerings were suitable so I found a local shed manufacturer and had one made to my own specification which I later painted to suit, and then one for my allotment. Neither would be suitable for you but I could have had anything I wanted.

Look on Tuin site. Every shape and size available. We bought one from "rum ages" section. Delivered and help with construction included. Should have been £5k...ended up costing £1600...its one of those fancy shaped (octagon) with small porch and shingle pointy roof. Grandkids would live in it...

Build your own, most cheap sheds are made out of wood only slightly thicker than paper, and expensive ones are not much better,

Build your own using 3x2, insulate and ply the interior, and roof, damp proof membrane, then create an inch airgap and clad the exterior using shiplap,or a compressed concrete siding like cedral, you can make it to fit, and it will last much longer and be much more comfortable to be in, and less likely that things rust inside.

I, m not convinced about building your own. The wood in ours alone would have cost more than we paid. I built ours last year (Think it was called "Joss". It's an 8x8 with one corner cut off to give door way under a roof. Roof is angled OSB on a substantial frame, meeting at a point in centre. (8 boards) They fitted perfect with no mods at all. A nice floor (ply) on floor rafters/joists were included as were roof shingles. Main woodwork was 40 mm overlapping pine.. (sort of posh log cabin) with 2 glazed /opening windows. Including concrete base it cost £2100.(All wood treated at factory but painted anyway) Looks smart.
Google Tuin. Then look in rummage corner.Some fantastic bargains.

If I could spend a few days in the garden, guaranteed dry weather, timber delivered, then I might have a go doing it myself. In fact, I'd enjoy doing so. But when I take everything into account, it is much less appealing.

First - although we do have garage, it is not suited to cutting large quantities of wood. So outdoors is necessary hence fine weather.
Second - even though our local woodyard is considerably less expensive than DIY sources, Travis Perkins, etc., it would still cost quite a lot.
Third - it would be much more attractive if someone were available to help!

Like the idea. BUT...

This is a new build house and we visited the site during construction. The garden is a relatively thin layer of soil on top of solid rock. Unless Kim Jong Un lends some of his explosives (nuclear or conventional) there ain't going to be an underground shed here!

Have discussed that possibility. When we wanted our main garden shed we had great difficulty finding anyone who would build one exactly as we wanted. Most of the companies had a basic design, or many basic designs, and would have been happy to modify them. Yet we didn't manage to get what we wanted. Eventually went much further afield and found something we are happy with.

Having said that, it is a good idea.

To be fair having looked at the site, they do seem better than the average, especially the log cabin,

And they don’t seem ridiculously expensive, but for my own shed I will be making my own a big 6m wide by 5m deep, shed come garage, it will be for my motorcycles, my milling machine and lathe, fully insulated, the ground it will be on, is a half meter higher than my property, but level with the properties at the rear, so I am considering excavating the half meter and having it 3m high to the eaves at the front though 2.5m at the rear, where it will be 1m from the boundary, as required under permitted development, and having some further storage created in the eaves.

As a flat dweller looking at them they really can get a bit exotic! I can imagine people even naming them like they name their houses with such as Dunroaming and Mon Repos.

What could one name a shed? Storeville maybe?

I built a 10 x 10 shed in the front garden for my bikes.

But then I had some wood left so I built a bar.

Got a bit carried away after that ans so the bikes are still out in the byre.
