Hi all,
I'm quite new to all this but have absolutely fallen in love with travelling in excess of 50 miles on a few pence without leaving a trail of black smoke in my wake!
Now I do of course realise that many of you hold a pretty dim view of electric pedal assisted scooters, but for me at least having owned many a Vespa in my now distant youth, and buzzed lazily around many a foreign Mediterranean on them, I think they are an absolutely fantastic idea....Sadly rather poorly executed! Having messed around with various hub motors and realising their limitations within this application ( lack of torque, inability to pedal without resembling a mature silver back gorilla on a childs bicycle etc ) I decided to import one from china it uses a 250W geared motor with a planetary gearbox running 48V LiPO4 and the results are fantastic, essentially you can travel in excess of 50 miles on one charge, and it will tackle 1:5 inclines without any noticeable decrease in momentum...Amazing stuff I'm sure you'll agree? However, I use mine for commuting around the busy high hedged windy A roads in Devon, where massive lorries and bonus crazed white van men round hairpin corners without any visibility or seconds thought as to what might be around them.
So, my question is; working within the parameters of what I have ( geared motor, fixed to a planetary gearbox, 48V LiPO4 ) is there anything I can do in the interest of seeing my next birthday ( it's a big one btw ) without " wearing " a Scania badge on my back? I'm not looking for Alien Ocean wheel spinning mountain bike performance, nor am i looking to enjoy the experience for a nannosecond...Just an additional 5mph to keep up with the traffic flow would be great
