How do you specify and measure one?

in about 2004 I got a new saddle for my Dawes Horizon from Wiggle, but I've lost the code for my old wiggle account when I lived in Reading so can't see what it is from previous orders.

This saddle has subsequently been transferred to my Powacycle Salisbury and most recently to the Wisper, with the Powacycle now having it standard saddle which (identical to the Wisper) seems to be made for a person of indeterminate gender with a much larger bum than mine (these things must be standard for e-bikes ).

As I have decided to keep the Salisbury as a "town bike" (I daren't let the Wisper too far out of my sight, even when locked!) I would like to get a saddle more suited to my build. I am not sure how to describe the one I already have but its "medium size" compared to the big 'un but not as thin as a "racers" saddle. (perhaps it is a standard size?)

Also, the Powacycle seatpost is currently quick release. I do not want this as its just temptation to the local scrotes. What should I replace it with?

I've tried a few saddles starting with the cushioned Wisper one through a variety of gel seats to end up with a thin unpadded seat that cost a fiver from the bargain bin. Gel padding seems to put pressure in the wrong places so I find the unpadded the most comfortable, my sit bones carry the pressure and the rest of the saddle is for control as it should be.
I suspect it depends very much on how much you ride, I spend almost 3 hours on the saddle every day so I'm used to it but an occasional rider might need padding.

leaving your Powercycle with a Quick release, is a recipe for disaster....just replace the quick release fitting with an Allen key similar to clamp up the seat post...job done
and Mussels (muscles??) is right..gel saddle dont support the boney bits, and so drop the sensitive 'mid-line' bits onto the gel, causing a slow compression...eg it feels comfy at first
any gel saddles need to have a big centre cut out, and the gel needs to be firmish to support the bum bones on either side of the cutout...
bum sizes dont vary very much, altho' some bums "look" bigger than others...but what is significant is the width between the 2 support bones, which is pretty constant, altho' the fleshy bits can grow to some interesting sizes!

Brooks

I would recommend a Brooks saddle, like the B67. Around 60 pound. I got the dark red colered one for 41 pound from Chainreaction.
Excellent quality, cool in the summer, no sweat.

My vote would be for WTB, I use the v-race pure, and find it very comfortable, and well made.

I've just switched my allegiance from my previous favourites (WTB and Brooks B17) and now have a rido 2 saddle for each of my 3 bikes. I find then very comfy. Not so good for off road mind as it's not easy to slide off the back of them for tricky downhill bits, but tops for everything else for me.

I'm with you. They are superb..
