Hi

I have been using a BikeHut Comfort Ergo Mens Bike Saddle for quite a while, I dont find it that good, its ok for short rides, has any body had/have one of the BikeHut Ultra Comfort Gel Bike Saddles, they are £30.00 so was wondering if they are worth it.I have set the bike up to ride with more upright posture as possible.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've tried many but came back to and use on all my bikes the Specialized Expedition or Expedition Gel. There's a Plus version for those sporting a slightly wider beam!

wish I had stuck with specialised in that case...mine was thin and far to sporty so i got a 5 times as heavy gell thing recommended on here, and its useless, probably more uncomfortable then sporty specialised.

jez....... just looked and its cheaper!:(:p

Here is some feedback which might not be appreciated by some!
I had a lot of trouble finding the right saddle when I started cycling about 7 years ago. It is very important to get the right type of saddle and also to have it set-up correctly. I had a lot of discomfort initially as I had the seat wrong - angled up or horizontal which caused problems for me.
I had a PSA blood test as part of my medical MOT about that time and it showed a raised reading. This eventually led to tests and the outcome was that the prostrate had suffered inflammation at some point and calcification had resulted. I think this was due to the incorrect seat position.
The problem nowadays is that most bike positions are where the rider leans forward and this can result in pressure on the soft tissue. In the past bikes were more of a sit-up riding position.
I tried a number of different seats and eventually settled for a Rido 2 after reading about it on this website. This seat while not the most comfortable has your 'sit bones' supported thus avoiding any damage to softer tissue.

I wish there was an easy way of trying saddles before buying. Whilst I looked at other bikes around here there weren't many to start with, and none that seemed good. Most said from ok to aches after a while when asked but I think this was mostly based on little thought. My X-Byke seat was generally ok with aches after a time, supposedly having a suspension seatpost (which seems rather ineffective). I don't have lots of money so there's no way I'd get a brookes saddle with a chance it might eventually prove uncomfortable. I did get an Aldi air saddle last time the bike stuff was in and it's ok, but the air doesn't stay in very long but even with no air in it's better than the original saddle.
I guess I'll look at the suspension seatposts next- they can't all be as poor as the Powabyke one. Does anyone have one, or any experiences of the various models? I've started a new thread asking about them.

I had to modify mine as at its shortest height it was too high for me on the Kudos king. so I had to cut the spring down. But its just a standard one from Halfords, it does help a bit I think, but only done 8 miles with it so far.

Thought you would like to see this communication
Obviously Rido care about their product

Hi Mike,

Glad to read that you eventually found the R2 to your liking.

As regards its suitability for electric biking, you’re correct when you say that saddles really have to be more robust.

Maybe this will be an area we will look at in the near future.

Happy cycling,

John

Thank you for your communication, it is always a pleasure to find a manufacturer who takes his product seriously.
My own impression of the Rido R2 is that it is not particularly comfortable at first, but it never gets worse, even after many miles. The ability to shift along it is crucial and I find that I am in fact quite comfortable.
Having had a rather private operation, I particularly like the lack of pressure on the more sensitive parts!

However, I am an electric cyclist now and the lack of any springing in my R2 tells against it. In fact, my first R2 broke its rail on Belgian cobbles.
E-cyclists obviously do not pedal so hard and therefore carry more of their weight on the saddle, especially us older ones who like to sit bolt upright.
My dream Rido would be about an inch or so wider, fitted with solid steel rails, not hollow chrome-molybdenum which cannot take sudden shocks, and large coil springs at the back.
Such a saddle would appeal to e-cyclists. I know a few who have tried large gel filled saddles, only to be disappointed because gel moves away from pressure points.
Well sprung mattress type saddles, although they look appealing, force you to sit in one posture, and in reality, all that springing only insulates against road shock, whereas what is needed is either something as wide as a tractor seat, or a Rido which allows pressure point shifting.
Regards,
Mike

Dear RIDO Customer,

R2 rider? RLt sprinter?

Just wondered how you’ve been getting along with your RIDO saddle.

Whilst the ‘pressure shifting’ R2 continues to rejuvenate people’s cycling enjoyment in ever expanding numbers, the popularity of the new performance-orientated RLt launched at the end of 2011 grows unabated, helped along by significant professional magazine reviews such as Road.CC, Triathlon 220 and Cycling Plus.

But you can’t beat personal feedback and we always like to read about riders’ experiences.... what sort of cycling (commuter, leisure, pack-tour, time trialling, track etc); how you have benefitted from the saddle’s attributes; or what improvements, if any, you might like to see in the future.

If you have a moment we’d love to hear from you.... with accompanying snapshots of your ‘machines’ too if possible.
Of course, if you have already done this, then please accept our apologies and ignore us!

Looking forward,

Kind regards,

Walkerman /Mike thank you for pointing out the Rido 2. Certainly looks a bit different.
Well they are good, but I found the present R2 not up to the job as regards severe cobbles etc.
Mind you, I am 105 kilos!
