I've got a problem on our tandem with my nice old Brooks as the front saddle.
The nose of the saddle keeps catching my back trouser pocket as we mount and get started. Happens with almost all my trousers.

I think the solution is to arrange something so the nose of the saddle is rounded underneath and can't catch. I'm sure I can bodge something together. The question is: Does anyone have a neat solution? (p.s. I don't include not wearing trousers as a candidate answer.)

Dip the nose down a bit? Works for me.

  • I get the same/similar problem when riding our tandem and solo bikes, especially so if wearing lycra pants which because of their softness, tend to catch on the saddle nose more so that ordinary cotton material
  • what I do is to make sure my butt is a little further forward on 'take off'
  • personally I wouldn't like to adjust the saddle position or otherwise change the saddle 'dynamics'.
  • After all, if you've got to enjoy your Brookes (and I have several of them), then you've probably spent a good deal of time/miles getting the sadle 'just so'.

Same problem here - mainly on the tandem, but on solo bikes too. As Bikes4two says, just try to remember to ease a bit forward when setting off.

It's usually the rear pocket of my jackets that get caught (and ripped!).

I used to have the problem of my trousers crutch\belt catching on the nose of my Brooks Conquest, but since I got rid of the belt and use far more comfortable braces, no problems at all.

Lycra shorts.
[howls of horror echo across the void]

Or maybe a bit of iron-on velcro to hold the pocket closed?

A rounded nodule of something firm but pliable under the saddle nose?
