Having successfully converted my Ridgebak hybrid to ebike status, I'm looking to convert my Orbit which is a superior machine. I'd like to go for a RWD kit so I can keep the dynohub front wheel. Problem is that the kits I've seen only offer a 6- or 7-speed freewheel gearing option. Ideally I'd want to retain the 9-speed cassette I have, but I suspect that's asking too much. I really do not want a mid drive set up, so what options are there out there?

To keep your cassette you need a cst hub like Oxydrive kit or the smaller Q100 / Q128 CST from BMSB are cheaper then the bafang's, there are other cst's but you probably would have to deal direct with the Chinese manufacturer's. Woosh do a MXUS cst kit but believe (not sure) that it is a low rpm winding. If you want outright speed then go for 328rpm, If you want climbing ability then 201rpm or for best of both worlds settle for 230 - 270 rpm coupled with a 20 - 30a controller and a suitable battery with 28a bms.

My Oxydrive rear hub kit works just fine with my Shimano XT 9 speed cassette :)

The Oxydrive option sounds good...
