TSR2. Ah yes, wasn't that the "it's almost completed now so we will cancel the whole project" scheme?
How many realise the UK launched a satellite in those early days on a British built rocket? As usual, another case of "we've got it working so we will cancel the project" scheme.

All copied from the original of course, done back in the 70s:

Interesting photo. It brings many questions:
What are all those people doing having a picnic in the middle of the traffic?
Why are all the cars on the roundabout, and none coming on or going off?
Why are the pedestrians blocking the exit bottom right?
Why is the maroon car towards the bottom left and the white and cream cars top right going the wrong way around the roundabout?
Why is there a disproportionate number of minis and convertibles there?

You have to read up about the TSR2, one of the great IFs...
Fundamentally one of the greatest if not the greatest aircraft we ever built, technically so far advanced and problematic to maintain. Cancelled by the Wilson Gov't to spend the cash on Concorde another wonderful aircraft.
The Cosford aircraft is the only complete prototype model it never flew ,the Duxford model was 90% complete before cancellation and never flew. A Cockpit section survives at Brooklands and near me at Gatwick a pair of engines are on display. The only one that flew was never preserved instead it was used for fire range practice to test airframe strength and subsequently scrapped, in all about 25 airframes were under construction. A big waste of money, it was cancelled so swiftly it still beggars belief in the annals of the aviation world. and it could have been one of the worlds greatest aircraft.

Being a bit of an aviation enthusiast.... If anyone fancies some bedtime reading on the subject I have this on my hard drive which outlines the whole sorry saga from start to finish.

There was a lot more to the chain of events than is generally reported.

No way I'd want the boring job of driving an aerial bus.

It was for the stewardesses. He married one rather quickly - she was beautiful with very firm artificial breasts, which I couldn't help but notice when she gave me a very tight hug once.

My chest was lightly bruised, but Ibuprofen sorted it out. I doubt that she had much feeling in hers, early days for implants.
