Roof Bars?

I am potentially looking to buy 2 x Haibike Hard Seven MTBs, each of which weigh around 21kg. Ideally I'd like to transport these using roof bars on my Volvo V40 but am afraid that they may be too heavy for my current carrier (Thule ProRide 591) and Thule Aero bars?

Does anyone use roof bars safely and that are able to take 2 bikes of that weight? If anyone has recommendations or tips I'd really appreciate it - buying an SUV is not really an option I want to take. :)

I have Thule aero bars and they can easily take that weight.(rated for more)

I don't have the carrier though but send a email to Thule customer support to be sure - they'll advise. I emailed them the other day and they responded swiftly the

Be careful with roof bars. My son had some expensive Thule roof bars and cycle racks fitted (correctly) on his Audi. Was carrying two lightweight mountain bikes and the whole lot slid off the roof when travelling on a motorway. Personally I would not risk carrying ebikes on the roof

With all due respect they cannot have been fitted properly

Thule are a repwcted brand , sold by the millions. I see many many bikes on roof bars on motorways and few littering the hard shoulder.

There are risks with any method of transportation of course

Got to agree with this having done many high speed trips across the continent . I have had both bikes and ski boxes well over 130mph for extended periods of time, the only issue I have ever had was many years ago a cheap bar started bending towards the roof due to aerodynamic loads rather than pure weight.

Get a tow bar fitted then buy a tow bar bike carrier as they really seem to make life easier.....image.jpeg
