I've been looking for such a helmet for the past couple of years now and i never thought of buying a ski helmet until five minutes ago.

I do know that some people on this forum do not like wearing cycle helmets for various reasons, but i would also like to hear about your views.

This may seem like a silly question, but i am thinking of purchasing a quality ski helmet soon based on your answers. Please help me to decide what to do.

Would anyone wear or be caught wearing one of these helmets? Does anyone own one?
Thank you for your time.

Lovely comfortable Helmet , nice and warm ,especially for the ears and obviously envelopes your head more . One Forum Member was worried about being too hot for the head, but it has a small lever on the top that opens or closes vents and there are 9 vents according to the blurb . I`ve never found it too hot so far , The shell is much more substantial with the outer plastic being thicker . It is still very light however . The only drawback is if the sun is low , you have no peak , but someone on here did mention sticking one on . Perhaps adapting one like the Tennis Stars used to use at Wimbledon years ago . Remember Nancy Richie ? Well I do ! In conclusion they are very nice helmets to ride in . Perhaps I`m a bit biased as I have been riding Motorcycles since 1958 , always wearing a helmet, even when they were not compulsory . I still have 3 machines and have an Open faced and a Full faced Helmet for riding . The Open faced is easier to put on and take off and has the same dis-advantage as the cycle helmet with low sun , no peak .
Try one , at that price they are a steal .

It seems to me that ski helmets are not much different from the Casco type of cycle helmets, so I doubt wearing one would be controversial. I've noticed from photos that this type of helmet is popular in the Antipodes, especially for kids.

Two forum members in full winter kit modelling them for you.Note the added peak from a boot-sale helet glued to the first one for that desirable Highway Patrol look:

Thank you also flecc for your input, but not too keen on the kids stuff, way too old for that.

Hi again RoadieRoger, more advice please I would like to purchase a quality ski helmet in the region of between £30-70. Where should I buy this from, do you think from Ebay or from a cycle store? Better still in your case from Argos. What do you think my friend?

Well judging by the range of prices , some must be a rip off as they are probably all made in the same place , China . My Lidl one was £19.99 , the Aldi one came down to £14.99 in a sale afterwards .If you buy a so called `quality` one for £70 and don`t get on with it you will be upset . If you paid £15 you wouldn`t be . I`d go for a £15 one either from Argos or wait for Aldi or Lidl to do them again . The Tresspass Shop in the Bridgend Outlet had them reduced by half to under £30 just after Christmas .Perhaps other Outlets like Swindon still have them .

If you want to spend £70, please send £70 to me, and I will send you a nice Ski helmet that you will be happy with, and I'll be able to finance a new controller for my World Championship bike for this weekend's challenge.

BTW, You've probably noticed in the above photos that if you look like a tw@t without one, you still tend to look like one with one, but less so than with a bike helmet.

That's not fair one bit, by trying to win the World Championship bike challenge based on my expense, d8veh, hop on your regular bike mate and try winning it without the controller. If you win this Weekend you'll be classified as a born "natural" champion.;):p

The skateboard/bmx helmets in Halfords are similar, other than they don't cover your ears.

Tbe Bell ones were £24.00 when they were doing them @ 25% discount recently.

I stuck the peak from an old surfing 'ard 'at on mine - makes it easy to find when it's inna heap.

Matt black only for Lynda , menacing enough to scare grown men and perhaps more nervous children .
