Sorry I don't see any advantage of that scooter over the Brompton....you have to register it,tax, insurance. It is very heavy etc etc.
3.5 miles on the flat is perfect Brompton journey.
If you want power there are many 20" wheeled folders that will prove cheaper to buy. We are on our third batch of Kudos Secret bikes,so over 400 are in use, doing just the sort of journey you are doing, the all up weight is about 18 KGs.

Some commuting into London on flat routes use roller skates for such distances. Have you ever used them?

Much quicker than walking, they're a good compromise for a short journey, and you can use pavements or road edges. Your companion could have their own pair.
I went to university with roller skate. I won't do that again, I'll sweat and it's against my philosophy..

Guys, I already had an electric brompton (stolen) and now I'm using my electric dahon jetstream:

I really love this bike.

But I'd like to be able to carry a passenger from time to time. And also more torque. Hence the scooter.

But you can't carry a passenger on the scooter, it isn't built to do so and it would be illegal too. If you actually did succeed in modifying the scooter and you did manage to carry a passenger, the sight would be so hideously hysterical that it would draw the attention of every copper in London. They wouldn't even need to know any Ebike law / regulations whatsoever to realise that what you were doing was just plain wrong. I reckon you'd travel about 50 metres from your front door before you were pulled over.

Actually I really thought you'd like Trex's idea of converting an petrol scooter to electric. More torque, take a passenger, and I bet that jetstream must be just a little too big to take into restaurants and some other places.

Yes, the only problem is that I live in a small flat and there's no way I take it home.

Not sure if I'll manage to charge it or park it anywhere in central london

Who is this other person? Why can't they have their own bike?
It just different friends. Currently the pattern is that whenever we want to go somewhere, I take my bike while other will take the bus/tube.

It's a broken journey and I'd prefer to be able to carry them rather than me waiting for them until they arrive by bus/tube

Why not get the bus/tube with them instead, or just set off later so you arrive together?

Who's investing in the sidehack? Seriously, these are you're options: -

A) get the bus/tube
B) they/you buy another bike
C) wait for them at your destination, be patient.
D) buy a car
E) seek help

Nothing big enough carry two people safely will be luggable upstairs or convenient storage.

That means leaving something locked up outside.

An escooter isnt a massive step away from your builds compared to most!

John, that tandem is a great idea...I can see CWAH getting that into his flat and storing it,hehe.... Off subject I saw a manufacturer in Tianjin who had a very sexy looking e-tandem, with a BPM motor it would potentially be a wonderful machine. Would love to bring a batch over, but is there a market for such a tandem? MOQ would probably be 30 units, storing it,for me,would be a problem

No I'm not going to take the tube/bus instead, it's slow, crowded and expensive... and I can't give them a bike for free if they don't want to invest on it :/

What about the sidehack?

I'm not sure if it's legal?? And if it's legal, I'm not sure to have enough space in my flat unless I can fold it :/
CWAH...are you the same Cwah that I remember test riding our Kudos bikes on the Mall,London, some 3 years ago?
