Hello all,

As some of you may know, I've been changing strategy from having all my bikes at home to... having all my bikes outside.

Having to park my bikes outside, it has few criteria:
- It needs to be light so I can carry it upstairs when required
- Battery has to be removable
- It should cost too much so loss shouldn't be too hard to swallow
- Power level should be acceptable to filter cars

My best to date is the BBS02 road bike:

BBS02 with road bike is performing better than expected:
The potholes are not such a big deal compared to my 20" dahon even without suspensions, the thin tyres allow me to save about 20% power compared to my Cute100H bike on normal tyres, and gears allow me to either accelerate nicely to filters cars on "jammy" areas or go over 30mph on some straight road...

The biggest negative is that without suspension I have sometime wrist pain with vibrations.. I may have to consider adding suspension later..

As you can see, I've been trying to attach my laptop bag on my bike (where I'd have my laptop and sometime spare battery & charger). Ideally I'd like to not have to add another carrier to do that so I can have a light bike when I need. So currently I'm using 2 carabiner (too small they broke I'm ordering new ones) to attach it to my bike, and a "blocker" to prevent the bah to touch my pedal:

This blocker (in black) also broke because it's made of plastic. I need to get a metal one, maybe aluminium round tube bent to 90 degree?

Hi Cwah,
How about just using a backpack that can take a laptop?
Less weight and trouble than attaching the bag to the bike.
Backpack is what I am currently doing and found it heavy over time. When I just have my laptop is ok, but when I have other things such as charger, groceries or spare battery it easily go over 6kg, and it's a pain to carry.

Also, it's like not to have to lug it around me all the time and leave it attached to the bikr

i bit the bullet and bough asgard's largest metal lockup for a few 29ers - it's great, not cheap (£475), somehow it felt less painful than having another bike stolen by a local primate

Tortec Velocity rear rack. It's only about £20, weighs less than 400g and also angles in to keep the weight of the pannier closer to the centre of the bike. I've been using one for 5 years and it's never let me down. However I don't know if it would require modifications for your disc brakes.

Good work on the bag!

That's the one. Bikeradar's review quotes it as 391g - I haven't weighed it myself but it is light. I have the black one and yes, the black coating has worn off where the pannier clips on, but other than that it's still going strong. I use a single Altura Dryline 32 pannier - it's 16 litres (half of a 32 litre pair) and has been absolutely great. 5 years of commuting and it's never leaked even though I've been through some good downpours. No external pockets is the only downside, but perhaps that helps it's waterproofing. It will even take my small laptop if necessary.

I very second that - I came off tonight on an icy patch when a car stopped too suddenly in front of me, I had laptop in sleeve in this kind of ww2 job http://webbingbabel.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/swedish-army-backpack-m39-svenska.html which I find give just the right amount of circulation - anyway no harm to lap[top, one hardly ever falls on ones back when one comes off..

I finally managed to DIY quick fix it:

I realised I have bent spoke on the front and rear wheel.

What's the best way to repair the spokes?

Can you show us a photo of the whole bike and the bent spokes?

apologies if this is stating the obvious and/or missing the point: but I only realised the hard way after rereading Sheldon's stuff that you have to be sure the rim is true BEFORE tightening and/or replacing spokes - and bend the rim (knee and hands can do if one is strong enough) before tightening up spokes

Regarding the rack Cwah you have probably bought the wrong one. My one I have fits fine with discs the drive side has a fixed stay length whilst the disc side is slightlly offset with an adjustable stay to be fixed in any position.

picture of the current bike

The bag cracked after the second ride :(

Don't buy dawes bags, they are crapped and that's why they are so cheap
