No problem with the more heavy duty tyres at least. My Nokian WXC 300's see about 1000 miles each winter, more than half on tarmac. They're still going strong on their 4th year now, studs are still sharp. I'm usually going around 22mph on my modified Ezee Forza and take corners pretty hard.
That sounds impressive, was that road usage too?

My problem is I'll be cycling on salted roads and non salted pavements/cycle paths, I do around 600 miles a month, so I need low rolling resistance on the black stuff (plus better battery range) but just enough studs on the sides for conering and hard frost/ice.

As for snow, well I would consider using studded knobblies on another ebike setup up for the most severe weather.

i would be nice to have something like chains that you could put on or take off as desired. maybe we could just wrap some thin chain around the wheel and between the spokes. wouldn't work with rim brakes though.

at least with Ebikes you can put your legs out for stabilisers and just use the motor for forward motion.

There are removable solutions available, I saw some last year but they all looked pretty awful to ride on.

Some road, mostly bike paths. No gravel.

The Nokian tyres does not have a very low rolling resistance. My wh/km goes up from ~10 on summer tyres (Hutchinson Pythons) to ~13 on the WXC 300 winter tyres. Also my average speed goes down a couple of mph, but 21mph average/25mph top speed is enough for me. Also I don't use more than 5 of my 9Ah on my regular 10 mile commute, so I'm not very concerned about the rolling resistance. I am more concerned about getting to work, regardless of black ice or 8 inches of snow. The Nokians work very well for that:D
