rideback with shimano steps

spotted a ridgeback e bike the other week inquired about the range not tried it out fully,70 miles is stated range in echo was the reply.
from the owner

never heard of ridgeback, so just looked it up was not expecting it to be £2200 though.
it has shimano steps system have no idea what that is has 400watt battery .

That bike will have a range of 550 miles if you take it on the train from London to Inverness. That fact is about as useful as to know as any claims on range made by anybody about their bike. If you're 100kg, normal level of fitness (read unfitness) and ride around rolling countryside, you might struggle for 30 miles.

FYI. The battery capacity would be 400Wh (36v 10Ah in old money), which are the units of capacity. I'm guess that's what the guy meant. 400W are units of power. I would have thought that a battery like that should be able to supply around 800W - not that it's important.

I went out for a ride on my bike last night with my mate Steve. We did about 35 miles and both used about 100Wh. My bike has a 500Wh battery, so that gives me a range of 175 miles. Steve has 972 Wh battery, so that gives him a range of 340 miles.

You can ride to the corner shop and back without needing to switch on your electric bike. If you extrapolated that forward, you could ride your electric bike on a world tour, taking in all continents, using an AA cell for power, and still have some charge left when you get home.

Using 12wh/mile I'd say that bike has a range of 33 miles.

12wh/mile is about normal for someone not too fit, in averagely rolling countryside.

You may get half or double that, but it's at least a place to start.

what I was trying to get at, is that the blurb for the ridgeback states range 75miles in eco.
so the owner quoted range as 70, although she had done no long rides .

some ebike sellers seem to be a bit more realistic in range, ie woosh

Being realistic about possible mileage reduces the chance of disenchantment or disappointment later on.
