Ditto for the bike in front room syndrome. Mine was supposed to rest in the lounge only whilst being kitted out, yet somehow it has stayed, and resting on its work stand looks like the embodiment of elegant functional design. Admiring visitors will agree (otherwise they get the Teacher’s not the Macallan!).

Is that rear dropout of yours horizontal? If not, I’d suggest Pitlocks all round. Because your bike’s worth it!
'Pitlocks'? Is that some sort of lock for the wheels? They are quick release which I am not keen on at all - are you saying there's way to have them not only not be quick release but also be locked? If so please send me the link!

I also want to lock the saddle rather than have that quick release too - anybody know a way to do that?

it comes with this very fancy saddle tube whereby you can raise and lower the saddle when you stop at lights and then go again - at first it seemed a bit OTT but in fact practically it's something I have used a lot. It really works.
Agreed. Far from being OTT, this is a very sensible idea. Having a foot on the ground when stationary yet having a correct riding position for maximum pedalling efficiency have always been in conflict, especially on off-road bikes with high bottom brackets.

James..

These people do a kit that will work with both your wheels and saddle.
It comes with a nifty little 5 sided allen key, that you can use to remove them when needed.
Here is a link to Evans, as we all know your a regular visitor ;)

Thanks Flecc. The Pitlock link you provided does indeed give a much better description of the product than does the official site which is here: already PITLOCKed ?

I bought mine from http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/pitlock-shoppitlock/

Pitlock set 02 is the one which secures both wheels and the seat post.

Careful: Pitlocks don’t work with horizontal dropouts.

Here are pics off my bike:

I searched the internet high and low for the most secure skewer system and this seems to be the Rolls Royce of them all. Not cheap, but seriously, your bike really is worth it.

They are NOT quick release. However, using the special Pitlock nut, they're on and off in 10/15 seconds.

Thanks - but as I said to Martin the spindle is much thicker on my bike.

You can't use pitlocks with that axle - they only work to replace standard QR skewers combined with vertical dropouts.

I use a front pitlock skewer on both my bikes as they have standard skewers. They can't be used on the rear wheel as there's a hub axle on one and a hub gear axle on the other ... but as neither of those are QR and are always chained up I'm not bothered. With QR skewers like that I'd chain up both front and rear wheels when leaving the bike with a big Pragmasis chain and a closed shackle padlock.

You can buy Pitlock seatpost clamps separately but would need to check that they work with your bike - or else unpackage, test carefully and send back if they don't (some info here :

Cyclesurgery are the best source for single pitlock items I've found in terms of availability and price.

James,

Sorry had a mad one on Thursday!
Totally forgot the AM has through axles front and rear!

Your right no security skewer will work.
Hey at least it requires Allen keys and its not quick release with them wheels!

Looks like you'll be taking two locks out with you.. Better still, don't let it leave your sight! :)

Did this bike ever get recovered after it was nicked ?
