Recommend a folding electric bike

You would probably struggle to find a crank drive which folds. There are several compact crank drives but no aware of a folding crank drive due to where the motor is (I am sure someone on here will know if there is one). Alternatively there are a number of hub drive bikes which fold.
The Wisper 806 classic is a good quality folding bike.

There are plenty more good folding e bikes however it would be useful to have a bit more information about what you are looking for i.e. what you will be using it for, what kind of range do you need etc.

If thats the case most bikes should do this for you. The key is to look for a bike which does more miles than you need as battery performance declines over time. This way your battery should do what you need for longer. Also look for a good battery guarantee i.e. 2 years.

The KTM handlebars fold down like the AVE but not folding as such, normally referred to as compact.
AVE filed for bankruptcy. They were intended to be rescued to continue trading, but now the Pantherwerke company due to do that has also failed.
Therefore AVE may have ceased trading.
Life is still not easy for e-bike companies, even in the healthy markets like Germany.

Flecc - actually latest is only one part of the company failed (there are two parts). The other half will continue and will buyout AVE as planned. The only affect I am aware of is that there could be a delay for new models. This is what we have been told and I have no reason to believe this is not true. However you would not know this from reading recent information.

It was Pantherwerke that were supposed to rescue them according to the rumour mill and they've also failed now, per my second link.
I've seen nothing published to the contrary? I hope you are right.
We (and our customers) have been very pleased with our Kudos Secret bike,I personally have 2 off these bikes which I use in a very mountainous area,I am 17 stone and no hill has beaten me yet-in fact I have got off and walked down a hill when I have lost my nerve,but never walked up one.
These 20" wheeled bikes have an amazing torque reaction because of the size of the wheel,crank drive is not necessary and just adds complications.
The Kudos Secret is now on its third batch of 180 units so is well proven.
For 2014 we added a double height seat post to accomodate 5ft-6ft riders,52 tooth chainring for lower cadence at cruise speed and higher quality LED lights,it only weighs 18 kgs so is very handy to lift.

No I had seen the news which is why I sought clarification at the time. This gets complicated because there are two Pantherwerke companies but I have been assured the one taking over AVE is going nowhere.
That's good news then, I'm surprised Bike Europe hasn't picked that up.
They have reported today that Hero, the Indian bike maker behind A2B e-bikes is buying Mitteldeutche Fahrradwerke AG (MIFA), making another less well known part of the German bicycle and e-bike industry safe. Linked to here.
