Recently bought the Dover because of a 40 mile daily commute...3 months on and I'm still smiling. The 8 amp/hour was a little disappointing when dealing with headwinds ( I am 14 stone plus and carry luggage) so I've upgraded to the 18 amp/hour in anticipation of cooler temps and can get 60 miles at 1:1 no bother....just wondering if there's any other Raleigh owners out there? Also...considering changing the rear sprocket...will this give me more speed before cutoff?

Hi Horselung, yes, reducing the size of your rear sprocket will increase the cutoff speed pro-rata.

To find your new cutoff speed, just divide 15 mph by the number of teeth on the new smaller sprocket, then multiply the answer by the number of teeth on the old sprocket.

This will also give you more power at any given speed, since the power phase down steps are also raised, but the consumption rises too of course.

Basically your bike is roughly the same thing as the Kalkhoff Agattu, the Univega or the Spencer-Ivy bikes, all produced by Derby Cycles of Germany, and we have members with all these brand names.

It can be a bit tricky. Referring to the diagram linked to below, you need to remove the bell crank cover with it's fixing screw No: 30, then undo bell crank securing bolt no: 29 and withdraw the bellcrank and actuator rod no: 26. Then undo the wheel nuts and remove the rear wheel. The sprocket is retained with the snap ring no: 24 which is tricky to get off since it sits tightly in a groove. Be careful not to injure yourself using any tools to get this off.

Then you reverse the above procedures for reassembly. If you have any doubts, let a dealer do it, they won't charge a fortune, typically £15 to £20 including the new sprocket.
